Cognac ran right up to his good form yesterday in winning the first race at a wet and miserable Belmont to make it three in a row. Like his name suggests, it warmed the cockles of the owners’ hearts. He was a little slow away again and sat outside the leader who went very quickly. He put paid to that horse 100m into the straight and then toughed it out right to the line to win by a neck. The photo is of Cognac with Craig Staples aboard coming back to scale being led by Jan and Terry Morley who braved the heavy shower that was descending upon them and still managed to smile!
